Safety & data

Clinical safety, data protection and regulation

Waymira was designed by a practising GP with patient safety as the starting point. Here is how it works, and where our regulatory work stands, in plain language.

Safety by design

Waymira is decision support. It helps a trained receptionist decide; it does not decide for them.

Red-flag rules before AI

Deterministic rules check for emergencies first, every time, and direct to 999 or the duty doctor. They don’t depend on the AI.

When in doubt, escalate

If information is missing or the picture is unclear, Waymira says so and suggests the safer, more senior option.

A person always decides

The receptionist makes and books every decision. Waymira never books on its own and does not diagnose.

Shows its sources

Each suggestion cites the NICE guidance and practice protocol lines it used, so staff and clinical leads can check it.

Full audit log

Every suggestion, decision and override is logged with the versions of the protocols in use at the time.

Clinical oversight

When staff choose differently, your clinical lead reviews the reason. Only approved corrections influence future suggestions.

Data protection

We collect as little as we need, and protect what we keep.

  • Hosted in the UK (London).
  • Identifiers stripped before storage. Patient names and other identifiers are removed before anything is saved.
  • Optional masking of names, dates of birth and addresses in live transcripts.
  • Listening is opt-in, per call. Transcription only runs when the receptionist presses Start call.
  • Processors under contract. The AI and speech-to-text services we use act as data processors under contract.

Information governance support

We will work with your IG lead and Data Protection Officer during a pilot, including providing the information you need for your Data Protection Impact Assessment.

Regulation: where we are

We are treating Waymira as software that needs to meet the standards for clinical software in the NHS. The following work is in progress ahead of general availability. None of it is complete yet, and we won’t say otherwise.

  • MHRA medical device registrationIn progress
  • DCB0129 clinical safety case (manufacturer)In progress
  • DCB0160 support for your practice’s deploymentIn progress
  • DTAC (Digital Technology Assessment Criteria)In progress
  • DSPT (Data Security and Protection Toolkit)In progress

Important. Waymira does not diagnose and does not replace clinical judgement. It is used by trained reception staff, under your practice’s own protocols and clinical oversight. Waymira is independent and is not endorsed by the NHS.

Bring Waymira to your reception team

We are working with a small number of practices and PCNs on our pilot programme. We will set it up around your slot types and protocols, train your team and review it with you every week.
